Pumps Installed to Move Water After Reno Quake Damages Flume

AP reported that water officials say pumps to augment Reno, NV drinking water supplies after an earthquake damaged a water flume should be operating by the weekend.

According to Paul Miller, operations and water quality manager for the Truckee Meadows Water Authority, the 12 diesel-powered pumps should be able to move up to 40 million gallons per day from the Orr Ditch to the Chalk Bluff water treatment plant.

Curtiss-Wright Awarded Multi-Million Dollar Order from Westinghouse

Curtiss-Wright Corporation announced today in a news release that it has signed an agreement with Westinghouse Electric Company LLC to provide reactor coolant pumps (RCPs) for up to four AP1000(TM) Generation III+ commercial nuclear power plants or a total of 32 RCPs.

In conjunction with the agreement, Curtiss-Wright has received purchase orders valued in excess of $300 million to supply the first 24 domestic AP1000 RCPs. The RCPs will be used in Westinghouse's AP1000 design reactors which will produce 1,100 megawatts each. Curtiss-Wright's Electro-Mechanical Division (CW-EMD), a division of the Flow Control segment, will produce the RCPs at its Cheswick, PA facility.
